Fasting today

  No weddings

  The Mystery of Marriage is not celebrated on fasting days (Wednesdays, Fridays and the four fasts), from Meatfare Sunday to Thomas Sunday, between Christmas and Theophany, on the Beheading of St. John the Baptist and on the eve and the day of the Great Feasts.

  The official list says “on the eve and on the days of the Great Feasts” but does not include the Nativity of the Theotokos (8 September). We chose the stricter reading: no weddings on 7 and 8 September.
